A Birthday Ride

I turned 50 this week.  Donna had a great idea to go for a ride on my birthday since I had taken the day off.  I planned out a nice trip of about 100 miles going up through Dawsonville then on into Dahlonega.  Once in Dahlonega we took Highway 60 to Suches where we then took Highway 180 and made a run at Wolf Pen Gap.  From there it was US 19 into Blairsville for a BBQ lunch.  Although temperatures were forecast to be in the mid 90’s, most of our ride had temperatures in the upper 70’s to mid 80’s; even for a while after lunch.  After lunch, Donna even wanted to take the long way home instead of heading right back down Highway 515.  So we got back on and took 515 into Blue Ridge and then took Highway 60 back to Dahlonega and headed home from there.  Once we got south of Dahlonega the temperature was climbing up into the 90’s just as forecast.  It seems that Highway 60 in Lumpkin County has more “tar snake” crack filler than it has asphalt!  The day had warmed good and all those tar snakes were getting warm and slippery.
