Today was the BMW Motorcycles Owners of Georgia’s Toy Ride to the Towns County Sheriff’s Office in Young Harris, Ga. Donna didn’t get to go because she had to work so Chris rode solo today. It was a 264 mile trip door to door today. The club holds it’s annual rally in Hiawassee and this is our way of giving back to the community. The Sheriff’s Office collects toys and then distributes them to needy children in Towns County.
On the way down to BMW Motorcycles of Atlanta this morning it was a balmy 31 degrees with an overcast sky! However by the time we left, the sky was sunny and clear but it was still cold. Dressing properly along with the help of the heated seats and hand grips goes a long way in making you comfortable.
We loaded the toys in great big box and put them in the dealership’s van and headed off for Young Harris. When we arrived we were met by the Sheriff and some of his staff. I had been a nice ride up with friends. In spite of the cold temperatures this always a fun ride because you know it will help bring joy to a child on Christmas. After dropping off the toys and getting our picture taken it was off to lunch in Hayesville, NC with most of the group. After lunch we all headed home our separate ways.
This was also the first ride that I used the auxiliary input on the intercom system to use the MP3 player feature of the BlackBerry since I removed the CD changer from the side case. It worked pretty good. But you have to change volume on the phone/MP3 player and not with the stereo controls. I think I’ll make a trip to Best Buy or Radio Shack and get one of the cassette adapters that plugs into the player. That way we can take advantage of the volume controls on the stereo and the speed controlled volume, even though I won’t be able to scan through the player or see what song is playing on the stereo display.
